Questions and Answers
Question: I see that the date for the C2A is in August. Won’t it be a bit warm?
Answer: No, not at all… it won’t be warm…. it will be SCORCHING hot!! There are pros and cons for whatever date you choose to hold an event. So, while it will be rather warm (especially for the first day, as teams will finish on Sunday morning – before it really heats up), at least we know a year in advance what we’re going to have weather-wise. Also, those who have done relays know that while you certainly want to run well, it is not so much about setting your best time. In light of this, it actually makes sense to not have these relays when many are concentrating on their Fall/Spring races that they aim for. All of this said, we obviously encourage all participants to be safe and respect the heat!Â

Question: Is there a cutoff time for this race? What pace does that equate to? (and will that pace be slower than the TIR pace, due to the heat?) Thanks!!
Answer: The pace required will be about the same as the TIR (~10:15), and while the heat will definitely contribute to slower running, the shorter overall distance and the shorter average length of legs will lend itself to quicker running, so it remains to be seen how team paces for the C2A will compare with those at the TIR. HOWEVER, teams that that may not make the required pace (at both the C2A or the TIR) can still participate! Such teams would be entered in a “non-competitive” division (and have differently colored bibs) which would allow them to start runners at exchanges before the current runner gets there (so, hand-offs may not occur at every exchange, but the total distance is covered by the team). You’d be amazed how much time this can save (and it allows slower teams to run)!

Question: Number of runners on teams?
Answer: 8-10 runners per team!

Question: Do you have to exchange at every exchange point? Can someone run multiple legs continuously??
Answer: No, runners do not have to exchange at every exchange… multiple continuous legs are allowed.

Question: Do you have space for Ultras and Solos?
Answer: The C2A relay is a team event for teams of 8-10, not an ultra event. However, smaller teams may participate if they can keep within the pace parameters that are required. If this is not possible, ultra teams and runners may contact us directly to learn more about how they may choose to be out there, and how the event can not support them (with all the police, volunteers, etc).

Question: How do I find a team to run with? Is there a forum or message board to view?
Answer: Great question! We will soon be keeping a list (that will be maintained at the LoneStarRelays.com site) of individuals or small groups who are looking to form teams. However, if it happens that a forum on this site is needed, we’ll put one up! Can we put you up on our list of individuals looking for a team?!?!
